Special days require special preparation and an extra special outfit. One such event this year was my NIFT Convocation.
With things going back to normal I got a pleasant news of my own. After months of anticipation and procrastination, my college finally decided to conduct our convocation
offline.
It was time to say the final goodbye to my college, faculty members, and friends which otherwise would have been incomplete forever. The heartfelt day needed an outfit close to my heart and what is better than a saree when it comes to days like these.
So here I am decoding my outfit.

The Saree
Let’s start with the highlight. Keeping the long duration of the event and Bhubaneshwar’s humid weather in mind, I had to go for something comfortable and easy to carry. Our options for the day were filtered out (thankfully) with the off-white dress code.
I went for a basic and traditional Kerala Cotton saree with a Zari border and detailed anchal. Cotton being light weight, soft and breathable fabric kept me on my toes comfortably throughout the event.
The zari details in the anchal elevated the look of an otherwise undertone saree and made it a hero for an occasion like this.

The Blouse
The time crunch did not give me the luxury to get my blouse stitched so I turned to Myntra.com. The blouse was actually a crop-top (a multipurpose one, as I would like to believe) from website’s “Myntra for earth” category. It focuses on bringing together brands that incorporate more handloom and handcrafted items and use organic, natural-dyed, recyclable, eco-friendly, vegan, and cruelty-free material.
I chose a black mutton sleeve and sweetheart neckline blouse to incorporate a bit of my personality into the traditional outfit. Since you represent your inner-self with what you wear, it was important to add something that has the essence of me.
The accessories
Accessories can make or break any outfit. So, it becomes important to choose them mindfully and try not to mess up the look.
To accessorize my outfit, I went for an Over-The-Top choker, a pair of ear-studs, and a watch.
The oxidized silver choker with fringes not only added a fun element to the look but created a bridge to bring the traditional saree and the contemporary blouse together. the subtle pearl earring was like the missing piece that completed the outfit.

The Convocation Stole
Finally, it’s time to talk about the showstopper, the tussar stole. To celebrate the rich Indian culture NIFT presented us with a handloom stole instead of the black cape. The beautiful and semi-lustrous tussar stole in the shade of blue with a maroon border was the best addition to the outfit for the batch of 2021.
Tussar silk is a traditional textile of Odisha and has a rich cultural and symbolic value. It’s a beautiful and lightweight textile and was the best fit for the occasion.

My convocation outfit was a mix of traditional and contemporary with a pinch of my personality. The clothes I chose were ethical, local, sustainable, and very close to my heart. It made my special day comfortable and the happiest.
It was indeed a Happy Graduation!!
