When you google about Tussar you get so many blog posts and articles talking about the process and properties of the textile. So, I decided that I will not bore you with another one. Instead, I want to share my Tussar story with you. My first memory of the beautiful textile, my first experience, and how I fell in love with it.
Born and brought up in the capital city of Jharkhand I was never too far from the tribal culture and tussar having the roots here was never far from my sight either. I visited all the trade fairs with my mother who loved the locally woven textile and never missed a chance to add one more to her collection. In one such fine-fair, she stumbles upon raw undyed Tussar which shone in all its glory oozing the royal gold color. Without thinking again mother got a piece for herself and gave it to my maasi to paint Mahbubani art onto the already mesmerizing textile. When I saw the finished piece, I was taken aback by its beauty, the delicate lines in red and green were perfectly enhancing the beauty of the fabric. I fell in love with it then and there. As a little girl, I wanted to grow up fast to wear it myself.
Interestingly, I have not worn it yet but I’ll wear it super soon.
This was my first memory of Tussar. Not sure its beauty made it so special or the fact that I saw it on the most beautiful person in the world. Whatever it was, it still holds a very special place in my heart.
Not that particular piece, but I got a chance to wear tussar and it was bliss. It’s true, the fabric has amazing texture and feels so light against your skin. The beauty and elegance that it gives, with minimal effort, make it an experience to remember.
I wore a solid blue tussar at a wedding and the experience was great. The texture combined with the color did all the magic. A simple plain saree gave the perfect party look.
It was a cold evening but tussar made the evening warm and comfortable for me. It’s surprising how the same piece of cloth can make you feel warm when it's cold outside by trapping the body heat in and keep you cool when it is hot outside with its breathable fibers.
Wear it for the first time made the love deeper.
It is a must-have textile in your wardrobe, be it a saree or a kurta of a shirt. Having tussar in your collection can give you a go-to option for both casual as well as party looks. All you need to do is style it well.
Each tussar or kosa silk has its own story to tell. Each piece is hand spun and handwoven by the weavers. They put their heart and soul into bringing beauty to life. When you buy a tussar handloom you become a part of their story, a story that has the smile of the weaver and his/her family in it.
This is a heck of a fabric with the best of both worlds in itself. It is sustainable, it's elegant, it's local and it is exclusive. So, if you are a handloom lover it’s a must-have for you.
If you own a tussar, I would love to hear what is your tussar story.
